Happy Halloween! Today, I have a great trick or treat alternative for your family. Have you heard of trunk or treating? I’ve seen it popping up all over Pinterest and social media lately. What a fun way to gather with a small group of friends outside! I’ve put together an easy guide to throwing your own spooktacular trunk or treat party. Here are all of the details so you can get trunk or treating this weekend!

I designed this invitation and I’m so pleased with how it turned out. These googly eyes are just the right amount of spooky. You can download the blank trunk or treat invitation here. Just fill in the details for your own party and send it out to your friends so the fun can begin!

Trunk or treating is easy. Get a group of friends to decorate the trunks of their cars. It can be as elaborate or as simple as you’d like. You can check out my Halloween Pinterest Board for more trunk or treat decorating ideas. Pull into a parking lot and have the kids go around and gather treats at each trunk. It’s a fun, safe alternative during Covid. A small group of people, all outdoors and treats coming from homes and people you trust. Win, win!

For our trunk, I decided to do a mini balloon garland. Balloon garlands provide a lot of bang for your buck. They are easy and inexpensive to do. Mine consists of orange and black balloons and smaller 5″ balloons that I made into googly eyes. These eyes really tied in with the spooktacular trunk or treat invitation and favors. I found the large googly eyes at a local craft store. They were very inexpensive. I just stuck them on to the white balloons. If you cannot find googly eyes, just try cutting a circle of black paper and adhere that to the white balloons for a similar effect.

The cute spooky banner was from Etsy. You can find it here. It is trimmed in black glitter. I love it! I also taped an inexpensive, black, plastic table cloth to the roof of my car and let it hang down as a backdrop curtain. That blocked out the rest of the car and allowed the focus to be on those delicious treats!
Now, for the good stuff! Let’s take a closer look at all of the treats. I made sure to individually package everything this year.

Yummy, individually wrapped caramel apples! Here’s a quick tip for making them look extra charming. I simply removed store bought caramel apples from their packaging and put them onto a Halloween themed cupcake wrapper. I then placed these into clear cellophane treat bags and tied them with cute black and white baker’s twine.

In addition to the googly eyes, spider webs can be found throughout our trunk or treat party. Some are on the orange table cloth, others are on these adorable, small treat cups. I found these at Target. First, I filled them with prepackaged candy or candy corn. Second, I placed them into a smaller cellophane treat bag and tied them with orange and black baker’s twine. Lastly, I added one of these spooktacular treat tags. You can download them here. These tags can be personalized are a great addition for your special treats!

While things may look different this year, we can still find creative ways to have fun and celebrate. Grab your crew and throw together a trunk or treat party this weekend. I promise it will be spooktacular!
